The word giclee (pronounced zhee clay) is derived from the French word “to spray”. Agiclee printer sprays pigments onto a substrate (paper, canvas etc.) The giclee printer receives its commands from a digital file. This file can be created in one of two ways:
The most common method is to create a painting using traditional media, and then have the artwork photographed. The photo is then scanned to create a digital file which is then sent to the giclee printer. The quality of this type of giclee print depends upon the skill of the artist, the skill of the photographer and the skill of the person doing the scan. If any of the people involved in the process does not reproduce the artist’s intent perfectly, the print will not resemble the artist’s original. If all goes perfectly, the giclee print created this way will be a close approximation of the artist’s original.
The second way to create a giclee print is much less common, but it is the way I have chosen to work for reasons of quality. In this method, the original artwork is created digitally from the start! This eliminates the two extra steps of photographing the art and scanning the photo. When the original art file is sent directly to the giclee printer, there is no chance that the original art will change or be degraded in any way! It is very costly to create giclees using this method because of the expense of buying powerful computers, sophisticated software, expensive color management systems to assure that all devices are color calibrated to each other, high end graphics tablets and of course, a very expensive high resolution giclee printer. I have invested in all of the above so that I can have complete control over the entire creative process. The result of a giclee created this way is that every color, texture, brushstroke, detail and nuance of light intended by the artist is faithfully reproduced. The image seen by the artist as he creates the painting on the monitor is matched exactly in the giclee print!
The giclee art that you see in this gallery is of the highest quality and it exactly reproduces my intent as a painter. These giclee prints are limited to editions of 50 pieces. Each print is numbered and hand signed by the artist. Giclee canvas prints are available in standard or custom sizes. Call or e-mail me for prices. All artwork comes with a money back guarantee. If you are not completely satisfied for any reason, simply return the artwork – undamaged – in the original container or box for a full refund of the purchase price!
